Police to use tech that predicts crimes

Before you read this story, you must have seen some cool detective films. In the films, maybe the police could use many fantastic hi-tech detection means which were just some imagine for future. But in reality, there is not so many cool hi-tech for detection. In this story, the author introduced a new technology for police to forecast some possible criminals which is not in a detective film but in reality.

This article reported that a new detection technology names PredPol has been developed by two mathematicians, an anthropologist, and a criminologist in California. We could easy to understand that PredPol is a new technology which was developed by using criminal psychology, sociology, probability and statistics to infer the time and location where the next crime event would take place. In the test for the past year, the city has seen a 19% reduction in burglaries. It seems very effective and as the city of Santa Cruz increased in a 30% the number of crimes and had a 20% decrease in police staff, using PredPol is a good way to solve the problem of police decreasing. But as some reason of financial budget and some problems of bureaucratic interpersonal relationship, it might not be applied right now. However, their research is still continuing.

In my point of view, PredPol is a very cool and effective technology. To compare with solve cases after the crime took place, I think it is better to infer the future possible crimes and to avoid it. On one hand, it could save many innocent people from murders and damages. On another hand, it could help find what kind of mind problems or reasons of would-be criminals. It is not only to protect innocent people but also to help the people who are refused of maybe poverty, enmity, emotional problems etc. to leave their mind barrier and far away from crimes. As the reasons above, I think to forecast crimes would be more valid to decrease crimes from the foundation of crimes than to detect a big case.

In a conclusion, I hope PredPol could be developed more applicable and to be used in the near future but not just an image in the cool detection movies. Expect new advancement of PredPol.

eCall system to be on European cars by 2015

As we all know, there has been amount of people died of car accidents. Some people would be dead on the spot, but there were also a lot of people died of not timely rescue.

In order to decrease the number of death who would not dead on the spot of the accidents in future, the European Parliament decided to fit the eCall system on the European new cars from 2015.

This story reported that from 2015, all the new cars would be fitted with the eCall system in Europe. This system is an emergency telephone system which would telephone to the 112 public emergency number when a car met a big accident. This system would to be start when the airbag was bounced off after an accident. It will help police to confirm the location and the time of the accident for people can arrive to the site on the first time. And of course, this system would not be used while the car is not in an accident for protecting people's private. And it is also report the cost of each car would only increase less than 100Euros, and could save 2,500 lives every year in the future of Europe.

In my point of view, it is a good choice for cars to fit this kind of system. Though it is only a piece of news of Europe, I hope the system would also be used in China. In China, there were lots of people died of some accidents, which were caused by absconding people or tourist buses' crashed. Sometimes they were not dead immediately, but for they were not found promptly. And especially the accidents which happened in some no-one mountain areas, there were lots of people dropped in the deep valley and died of helpless. They were just falling in unconsciousness but did not die at the moment of the accident.

But on another hand, for China have a big area and a large population, and also consider with the economic conditions of the citizens, it needs a long time to achieve. And instead of the eCall system, China maybe had done some tiny systems by some personal developments. Maybe Chinese people have already made an iphone application as a reliable emergency system.

That is all my opinion about this story, and I expect the system could be spread around the world.

Eggs can curb your hunger

What do you always eat at breakfast? I was under the impression that people of western countries such as Europeans and Americans prefer to eat some bread and milk, cornmeal or plus some salad and sandwiches etc. as breakfast every day. While Japanese people may be more likely to eat some Yamato-breakfast such as Miso, Onigiri, etc. or maybe some people are the same with the people of western countries. While when I was in my hometown China, I always eat the Chinese food such as soya-bean milk, jellied bean curd, tea eggs and may be some Chinese-type pies. There were so many kinds of food full of variety in China that I didn’t know what to eat at breakfast when I first came to Japan. And as the article said, finally I chose eggs as my breakfast till now.
In this article, it is reported that eating eggs at breakfast would bring people more satiety than some others. According to the research of the American Egg Board, eating eggs boosts PYY in human’s body, which is a kind of hormone that could lower hunger sensation and higher satiety of body. And it leads people to eat less at the next meal. So the researchers advised people who want to lose weight could try to eat eggs at breakfast or lunch.
To combine with my life, I would like to share some of my experiences. When I first came to Japan, I cannot find any foods which are a little bit similar as in China. At that time, I was confused about what to eat at breakfast and began to eat instant noodles which I brought from China. But when I ate up the noodles, it became a problem once again. So I began to eat breads and milk as breakfast, but my roommate did not want to eat them anymore. Finally, we chose to cook some Japanese Ramen and add an egg and sometimes some Green cabbages per person. Of course my roommate did it every morning because I could not wake up such early to cook. We found it great for our stomach and full of nutrition. Thus we continued to eat it as breakfast till we both left from Kyoto.
But while I came to Sapporo, I found that kind of noodle cannot be found in the super-markets of Sapporo. Though felt a little bit sad, I had to find a new food as breakfast. As early as my Japanese class goes at the first class two times a week, my breakfast must be speedy and full of nutrition. Thus I found eggs are miraculous to be breakfast. Sometimes I write reports all the night. And I have the experience of slept at 4:00AM so that I felt so tired when I woke up. But finally, eating eggs at morning makes me satiety and a little more energetic than some others do. And I chose to eat an egg as breakfast to support my whole morning.
That is all my opinions about this article and I think it is a great choose for us to eat eggs every day in order to support our brain as a kind of high grade protein.

Chimpanzees: having a crack at culture

As the differences of culture, human of the same race might have different life styles, manner and beliefs. Even though the people belong to a same city, there would be some little different manner between two families. So that we could infer that culture does not be decided as genetic cause. But how can we find the reason that human has so many kinds of culture? The author of this article reported a new research that chimpanzees might have different culture of having crack.

This article reports a phenomenon of chimpanzees which is found in the Taï National Park in Cote d'Ivoire over three consecutive nut-cracking seasons by the researchers. At this period of time, a same kind of chimpanzees of this national park are partial to the Coula nut, which they open with their own tools made from stone or wood. According to the research, each neighbor-hood appears to have its own kind of tool style. Each of the group of them use wood or stone and the size and style are in difference. And it is thought of cultural preferences by scientists that might shed light onto the origin of human’s culture.

It seems interesting that animals have culture as human. But I think the world of animals is not different from that of human. Human as the type of modern times does not accomplish in an action though the origin of human is still a mystery. In my point of view, culture and intelligence are supplements each other. Animals use intelligence to produce a way to solve when they met difficulties. Each groups of this kind of animal may have different way, just like the TV shows of team cooperation. It is easy to make the differences of solve problems, which accumulating over a long period becomes a kind of culture of the offspring of one group.

And I believe that the culture of the chimpanzees of this story is a section of evolution. I think the skill of crack the nut does not popular before the chimpanzees began to eat this kind of nut. There must have been one chimpanzee which ate the kind of nut accidentally and from that time, they began to invent tools in order to eat the tasty nut. The first tool might be invented by one group of chimpanzees, and others also wanted to eat it so that they invented some other tools which were more suitable to themselves. Throughout the constant inheritance and improvement, different cultures emerge their own styles that we could see in the modern times.

That is all my thoughts about the origin of cultures. I also think the chimpanzees of the Taï National Park could bring some inspirations for scientists to find the mysteries of both culture and human’s origin in the future.

China launches space mission with first woman astronaut

Though I didn’t hear something about ‘Shenzhou-8’, the inspiring news could also make me a little bit delighted.

According to the author’s report, China has launched its latest manned space mission ‘Shenzhou-9’, and contained the first female astronaut of China. At this time, the female astronaut and two male astronauts are heading to the Tiangong space lab of China and going to spend over a week living and working. The Shenzhou-9 has been designed lighter in order to be advanced as robotic cargo ships. At the same time, the most important thing is to dock into the Tiangong space shuttle successfully, and do the experiments for the future development of medicine.

In the nearly a decade, China did make a big progress on the manned spacecraft engineering. I still remember the year 2003, the scene of Yang Liwei who is the first astronaut of China waved the Five-starred red flag. It seemed like a dream, suddenly came true and fantastic. I thought it a peak of China’s spacecraft engineering, but actually China has already made many breakthroughs over and over till now.

Began from the Shenzhou-5, Shenzhou-7 achieved a progress of space-walk, Shenzhou-8 fulfilled the mission of docking space station. The Shenzhou series are worthy of the name ‘ships of miracle’. They are without any trace but as long as they appear to our view, it is always surprises for Chinese. The Shenzhou series ship so many dreams and fantasies of Chinese. And with the development with a steady pace, I wish they can achieve the dreams of all the human beings someday.

China's students take on tough Gaokao university entrance exam

Last Friday and Saturday, again in the college entrance examination “Gaokao” has been taken place into the high-schools all over the China. It is reported 9.15 million Chinese high school students are sitting the notoriously tough university entrance exam this year. And as same as every past year, police, transportation, construction plants, etc, all of the social power and public works gave way to the exam and provide help to the examinees. And nearly all the society paid high attention to the examinees and the tough exam.
And in this nearly period of “Gaokao”, most of the students of universities began to supply in voice for our inferiors of our high-school in “renren.com”.  After the two days, lots of interesting stories of “Gaokao” and problem began to spread in “renren.com” successively. Especially the interesting thesis topic of the exams from all over China was discussed in full swing.
You may doubt that why does the exam get so highly attention by the China’s society. And I could say the exam is nearly the most important thing for the examinees and their family’s future, especially for the children who come from poverty.
In China, there are two of the most important exams are privileged and paid attention by the society. One is the exam for Junior-school students names “Zhongkao”, and another is “Gaokao”.
Maybe it is a shame that to be a Chinese, I did not take either. For I passed the exam of my six-year system school when I was a primary school pupil and I chose to study abroad in Japan when I was in senior2. From my high-school’s graduated students last year, there were 65% of the students chose to study in Japan’s universities, 25% went to the US university or some other English countries’ university, and 10% of the students took the “Gaokao” exam.
“Gaokao” is an exam like Japanese “Center Exam” but much harder than it. It seems unfair that the quantity of subjects that examinees should choose is different between different areas. And the difficulty and borderline point of an offer are also different between the areas. So that the competition of “Gaokao” becomes extremely intense and even if the examinee has the ability to get the offer from Peking University, he/she might be assigned to a bad university for some slight fault in the exam.
Even though the college entrance examination system is being improved to be more hommization, there are few people get the benefit from the reformation. For one hand, it is nearly impossible to reduce the quantity of examinees who want to go to universities. For people cannot go out from poverty through their physical labor, their parents hope they could be success by study. For another hand, some university realized that the problem of “Gaokao” that students cram for the exam but not really “study” and lack of creative ability. But unless the Chinese study pattern of all the primary education system can be changed, it is also difficult to change the form of “Gaokao”.
I was lucky didn’t to be eliminated by “Gaokao”, and hoping the pattern of China’s “Gaokao” could be changed and advanced step by step.

Miami's 'growling cannibal' named as Rudy Eugene, 31

It is one of the most shocking news I have ever seen that a man becomes so murderous and crazy at once in Miami.

I have paid attention to this piece of news for some days before I read this news. The author of BBC reported that a man was shot by police after he was found biting another naked man’s face at last weekend. A witness said that he saw the aggressor eating another’s face and after polices’ warning continued eating and roaring to the officers. In this kind of out of control situation, police shot the crazy aggressor until he dead. The victim is a 65-year-old homeless man whose face was reportedly missing for 75% and now takes in curing in hospital.

The aggressor named Rudy Eugene who was 31 years old and reported taking a new kind of drug “bath salts”. According to the US Drug Enforcement Administration, this kind of drug drives user experiencing agitation, paranoia, hallucinations and elevated body temperature. And I think that is why the aggressor removed his clothes and became crazy like a zombie.

Before I read the new from BBC, I have read the news from “renren.com” several days before. It was almost the same situation with BBC, but something was said really strange. It was said that Eugene was a zombie that he didn’t have the same gene with human beings. And another statement said that he was a product of some secret Bio-Research, and “Resident Evil” will come true.

These uncertain hearsays really scared me and I found a lot of information of this event. Most of the media reported that Eugene was said by his mother, girlfriend and uncle a hard-working and piety man so that it is unbelievable for him to be crazy and mad. And several media pointed out that he has been put in prison for 7 times and smoking marijuana. He was said cynical and a little bit violent by his ex-wife.

And finally, I read a piece of blog of my precursor who learns apply- chemistry in Hokkaido University. He makes up the chemical formula of “bath salts” and explains some of the quality of the drug though I didn’t understand for I am a chemistry chump (huh). Then I believe that the crazy aggressor drove by the drug and because of the death of him, the reason that he took that kind of drug becomes a mystery and is surveying by the police. And waiting for the cure of the victim for the truth of the scene also becomes important for the police.
