Last Friday
and Saturday, again in the college entrance examination “Gaokao” has been taken
place into the high-schools all over the China. It is reported 9.15 million
Chinese high school students are sitting the notoriously tough university
entrance exam this year. And as same as every past year, police, transportation,
construction plants, etc, all of the social power and public works gave way to
the exam and provide help to the examinees. And nearly all the society paid
high attention to the examinees and the tough exam.
And in this nearly period
of “Gaokao”, most of the students of universities began to supply in voice for our
inferiors of our high-school in “renren.com”. After the two days, lots of interesting
stories of “Gaokao” and problem began to spread in “renren.com” successively.
Especially the interesting thesis topic of the exams from all over China was discussed
in full swing.
You may doubt that why
does the exam get so highly attention by the China’s society. And I could say
the exam is nearly the most important thing for the examinees and their family’s
future, especially for the children who come from poverty.
In China, there are two of
the most important exams are privileged and paid attention by the society. One
is the exam for Junior-school students names “Zhongkao”, and another is “Gaokao”.
Maybe it is a shame that
to be a Chinese, I did not take either. For I passed the exam of my six-year system
school when I was a primary school pupil and I chose to study abroad in Japan
when I was in senior2. From my high-school’s graduated students last year,
there were 65% of the students chose to study in Japan’s universities, 25% went
to the US university or some other English countries’ university, and 10% of
the students took the “Gaokao” exam.
“Gaokao” is an exam like
Japanese “Center Exam” but much harder than it. It seems unfair that the quantity
of subjects that examinees should choose is different between different areas.
And the difficulty and borderline point of an offer are also different between
the areas. So that the competition of “Gaokao” becomes extremely intense and
even if the examinee has the ability to get the offer from Peking University,
he/she might be assigned to a bad university for some slight fault in the exam.
Even though the college
entrance examination system is being improved to be more hommization, there are few people get the benefit from
the reformation. For one hand, it is nearly impossible to reduce the quantity
of examinees who want to go to universities. For people cannot go out from
poverty through their physical labor, their parents hope they could be success
by study. For another hand, some university realized that the problem of “Gaokao”
that students cram for the exam but not really “study” and lack of creative
ability. But unless the Chinese study pattern of all the primary education system
can be changed, it is also difficult to change the form of “Gaokao”.
I was lucky didn’t to be
eliminated by “Gaokao”, and hoping the pattern of China’s “Gaokao” could be
changed and advanced step by step.
Is there a season of the year in China, which is known in Japan as "Examination Hell"? This is a time in which there is a higher number of teenage suicides than the other times of year. Of course there are many other psychological and psycho-physiological problems less dramatic that students suffer.
回复删除The best colleges and universities in America consider a students grades, his test scores, various original essays, and several letters of recommendation by teachers and community leaders. Each of those components receives approximately the same weight. This method takes into consideration that there are different sorts of intelligence and different methods of assessing ability and accomplishment. I, for one, was a so-so test taker. But I was a good writer. Fortunately I was a good writer, because that is exactly what earned me spots in very good universities. Of course, many students are not such good writers; they still have a chance of being accepted if they get good test scores and demonstrate that they have sufficient ability with evidence of extracurricular success, like being and outstanding athlete or by participating in volunteer work within the community.
